(From a recent collaboration with Tarumitra)

Banerjee’s change-making journey must’ve taken roots when at the age of 4. She questioned her father why is the soap “life buoy” named life buoy( misreading it as a boy) and not life human. From then on, She has voyaged as a volunteer throughout her school life.

When she was 10, She started teaching kids in her parents’ organization, Kahaanighar. She used to teach them through storytelling. She still does it on weekends. That experience has taught her that social work, for her, isn’t the cherry on her cake, it is the very core of the cake. So she has baked and iced the different layers at different stages of her life. The very first layer was her teaching volunteer service.

The “now” layer is her building my organization, The Soft Movement, an organization that focuses on reducing polythene-bags usage by recycling newspapers and making newspaper bags for distribution to the small vendors. Activism for Dwishojoyee, means ground-level impact and that’s why she named it “the soft movement”, a movement that may be soft, that won’t scream shouts of change, that won’t create convulsion, but would make the change happen, a slow, sustainable and permanent change. They have focused on this project aiming at making change making a bite-sized business that can easily reach the masses and recognize simple efforts so as to develop a people’s movement that addresses a mindset shift and propels everyone to make change a part of their lives.

We’ve so far reached over 5000 students in 17 cities via our 30-member team, says Dwishojoyee Banerjee TO EMEA TRIBUNE

She still borrows a from the beacon of experiences that the world has to offer, still tasting new flavors and wondering if she may add them to the ganache, reading books and envisaging characteristics, learning and unlearning, and voicing shinchan’s dialogues for her friends and family.
