The man shot by a Louisville Metro Police outside a Walmart after he allegedly attempted to carjack a woman is now in custody at Metro Corrections after being released from the hospital Wednesday afternoon, officials said.
Randall Allen, 37, faces several felony charges, including resisting arrest, fleeing police and possession of a controlled substance, according to court records. He is currently being held on a $100,000 bond.
At around 12:15 p.m. on Aug. 28, Officer Brandon Brinkley shot Allen, who was allegedly attempted to carjack a woman in a Walmart pharmacy drive-thru while armed following a vehicle chase by Kentucky State Police on Interstate 265, Interim Chief Paul Humphrey previously said.
Allen’s vehicle, driven by Jeremy Bozarth, exited onto New Cut Road and reached speeds of 101 mph in a 65 mph zone before colliding with a red Chevy truck near Fairdale, court records show.
KSP troopers arrested Bozarth, but Allen, in the passenger seat, fled and ran into the nearby Walmart. When officers found Allen, he was in the front seat of a woman’s vehicle in the drive-thru pharmacy line.
He was shot multiple times through the window and taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Court records show KSP troopers began a pursuit after noticing an expired license plate, a suspended license and expired insurance and registration linked to Bozarth’s car.
Humphrey said Wednesday morning that Brinkley is a transfer from Lebanon Junction. He was hired in November 2022 and has nine letters of commendation with no history of disciplinary action, according to department records.
“Outstanding officer,” Humphrey said. “While he’s fairly new here, the experience he had in Lebanon Junction, to get that time on the street and understand this job before he came over to us has made dividends.”
Bozarth is being held at Louisville Metro Corrections on a $50,000 bond and also faces felony charges, including wanton endangerment, fleeing police and reckless driving. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Friday in Jefferson District Court.
