Session Taco will permanently close its Leawood location Sunday.

The restaurant, formerly known as Mission Taco Joint, opened in June 2023 at 11563 Ash St..

“It just wasn’t a great fit for the Park Place development, and we struggled getting the sales needed to keep it open,” owner Adam Tilford told The Star. “We have not finalized anything but are working with the landlord on next steps.”

Tilford co-founded Mission Taco Joint with his brother Jason in 2013 in St. Louis. The company expanded in that city and then opened in KC’s Crossroads in 2017, adding a South Plaza location in 2019.

The South Plaza location closed last year. That space, at 5060 Main St., is now home to Mildred’s.

The Crossroads location, at 409 E. 18th St, remains open, as do six additional locations in the St. Louis area.

Mission Taco Joint was rebranded to Session Taco last year following a trademark infringement lawsuit filed by Gruma Corporation, parent company of the tortilla maker Mission Foods.
