Teenager dies in crash
A teen died in a Nolan County crash Monday afternoon, according to a Texas Department of Public Safety news release.
Samuel Paul Martins, 19, of Hale Center died as a result of a one-vehicle crash near Sweetwater about 75 miles north of San Angelo, according to the news release.
Hale Center is a Panhandle city about 230 miles northwest of San Angelo.
Martins was transported to Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital in Sweetwater where he died a few hours after the crash, the DPS said.
The DPS preliminary investigation revealed that around 2 p.m. Martins, driving a 2018 Lincoln MKZ, was traveling north on State Highway 70 about six miles south of Sweetwater, the DPS said.
The vehicle failed to stay in its lane and went off the roadway to the west, the release stated. The vehicle traveled down an embankment and through a fence before hitting multiple trees.
It is unknown if the driver was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, the DPS said.
