An atmospheric river over San Francisco is forecasted to push its way south Friday night, creating a chance of showers in Southern California over the weekend.
KTLA’s Vera Jimenez says the storm system will continue to diminish as it heads south, so residents on the coast from San Luis Obispo to Los Angeles counties could see light showers from Friday night until early next week.
A winter weather advisory is in effect from 4 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Sunday for mountain regions in central California near the Eastern Sierra Slopes, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). Snow is expected at elevations starting around 8,000 feet.

In addition, NWS issued a small craft advisory for Los Angeles and Oxnard areas from 8 p.m. Friday to 3 a.m. Saturday for hazardous sea conditions from Point Piedras Blancas to Point Sal westward.
“Inexperienced mariners, especially those operating smaller vessels, should avoid navigating in hazardous conditions,” stated NWS.
According to NWS, rain totals will most likely amount to under one inch in Los Angeles and Ventura counties.
“By the time that system arrives, it’s going to be very, very minimal,” said Jimenez.
In her forecast, Jimenez says temperatures are estimated to stay in the 60s with lows in the 50s or high 40s over the weekend for Los Angeles as well as the Inland Empire and the inland region of Orange County.
