A Texas couple vacationing in Mexico City were found dead in their apartment rental on Tuesday, Mexican police say.
Mexico City’s Office of Citizen Safety officers responded to a report of an unconscious person in an apartment in the Centro neighborhood, in the municipality of CuauhtĂ©moc, authorities said Tuesday.
Officers interviewed a 61-year-old woman who said a couple, who had âvirtual credentialsâ saying they were from Texas, had rented one of the apartments in the building, police said.

She knocked on their door multiple times to notify them of a repair for a leak in the water meter, but received no response. Eventually she decided to let herself into the apartment and upon entering, she found them unconscious and called police.
Paramedics responded and identified the couple as a 35-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman.
The cause of their deaths is not yet known.
An Airbnb spokesperson said in a statement that the couple’s deaths were a “terrible tragedy,” and extended the company’s thoughts to their loved ones.
“Our priority right now is supporting those impacted as the authorities investigate what happened, and we stand ready to assist however we can,” the statement said.
A Public Ministry officer, part of the Mexican Attorney Generalâs Office, is investigating the deaths.
