One person was killed when a car and tractor-trailer crashed early Friday in Lynn County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The crash occurred about 9:15 a.m. Friday on US Highway 87 near FM 2053 in O’Donnell, with reported clear weather and dry road conditions.
Investigators believe a 1997 Buick Century driven by Leonel Salazar, 72, from O’Donnell, had stopped and was facing west on FM 2053 on the east side of the intersection at US 87.
A tractor-trailer traveling northeast in the outside northbound lane on US 87 was approaching the intersection of FM 2053.
According to DPS, Salazar then proceeded west into the intersection and attempted to cross US 87 in the path of the tractor-trailer. The tractor-trailer swerved left to avoid hitting Salazar, but the vehicles crashed into each other.
Salazar was pronounced dead at the scene. He was reportedly wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
No other injuries or deaths were reported from the crash by DPS.
