The low-profile, clean-living jeweller helping Brad to forget Angelina

The low-profile, clean-living jeweller helping Brad to forget Angelina

It’s a pretty tough job to upstage Amal Clooney. But when the 46-year-old human rights lawyer appeared on the red carpet at the Venice Film Festival with her husband, George, and his Wolfs co-star Brad Pitt, everyone was talking about the glamorous, glossy-haired brunette standing alongside her. This was the first time Pitt – who split from Angelina Jolie in 2016 – officially introduced the world to his new girlfriend, Ines de Ramon.

Unlike Angelina, who was born into Hollywood royalty (as the daughter of actors Jon Voight and Marcheline Bertrand) and made her screen debut at age seven, Ines de Ramon isn’t in the industry at all. In many ways, she’s the anti-Angelina, staying out of the spotlight that Jolie has courted over her decades-long career in the public eye, with her high-profile charity work, her film production company and her fashion brand Atelier Jolie.

Although this may have been their first red carpet photocall together, de Ramon, 34, was first linked to the Oscar-winning actor back in November 2022, when they were spotted backstage at a Bono concert.

But unlike Pitt and Jolie, who fell in love on the set of Mr & Mrs Smith in 2003, Ines and Brad reportedly met through mutual friends and have been taking things relatively slowly, especially by Hollywood standards (and Brangelina standards – Pitt and his ex were adopting their first child Zahara together just a few months after his split from Aniston).

After that first tantalising backstage Bono spot, Ines and Brad were then pictured together at the afterparty for Pitt’s film Babylon and at Pace, an Italian restaurant in Hollywood, for Pitt’s 59th birthday both at the end of 2022.

A year later, Pitt was referring to Ines as his “girlfriend” and in February 2024 she moved into his Los Feliz home. But until this week, Hollywood’s hottest new couple had kept a remarkably low profile bar an appearance at the British Grand Prix this year. So, who is the mysterious new leading lady in Pitt’s life?

She may be the anti-Angelina, but de Ramon has many parallels with Amal Clooney, in that she speaks multiple languages, has lived all over the world, and has her own successful career away from Hollywood.

De Ramon’s upbringing with her devoutly Christian Spanish family in Cologny, an upmarket Swiss suburb of Geneve, also seems worlds away from Jolie’s, who went to Beverly Hills High and was taking heroin aged 20.

According to a Swiss blog, when de Ramon attended the prestigious high school Collège Calvin, she and her friends were “among the most popular girls at the school.” When her Instagram was public, she captioned most of her photos in French, but according to her LinkedIn she is also proficient in English, Spanish, German and Italian.

After graduating from the University of Geneva in 2013, with a bachelor’s degree in business administration, de Ramon went into the jewellery industry, with previous roles in the jewellery department at Christie’s and at the luxury Swiss jeweller de Grisogono. She clearly knows her gems, with a slew of certifications in her field such as GIA Colored Stones Essentials and GIA Diamond Essentials.

She apparently keeps the actor close to her heart by wearing a necklace with a “B” initial. She’s also a qualified nutritionist and health coach, which suits Pitt – who is reportedly sober and vegan – and his new lifestyle. Although Jolie’s wild child days were behind her when she met Pitt, they still own a vineyard together and Pitt has said he was “boozing too much” during their marriage.

Although she’s not in the public eye, de Ramon has a high-powered career. For the last three years, de Ramon has worked for the LA-based jewellery brand, Anita Ko – one of Net-A-Porter’s best-selling jewellery lines, worn by stars including Kourtney Kardashian and Hailey Bieber. She is now the vice president of the company.

“Anita Ko is all about everyday diamonds,” says Sarah Royce-Greensill, contributing jewellery editor at The Telegraph. “It’s that LA look that’s very casual but polished, lots of layered diamonds with jeans and a white T-shirt.”

It’s a look that de Ramon herself embodies and in February 2022, she even starred in a photo campaign for the brand, which she shared with her 85k followers on her Instagram (her social media has since been set to private since she started dating Brad). On the Venice red carpet, she wore a chic, figure-hugging asymmetric white dress, accessorised, of course, with diamond drop earrings.

Although she’s not an actor or a model, this isn’t de Ramon’s first time dating a Hollywood actor. Prior to Brad, she was married to Paul Wesley, best known for his role in the teenage TV show The Vampire Diaries. The couple married in 2019 and enjoyed a discreet lifestyle away from the glamour of awards shows, mainly posting pictures of themselves hiking with their rescue dog.

In contrast, Jolie’s previous dating history was a little more colourful. She famously wrote the name of her ex, Jonny Lee Miller, on her shirt in blood, and wore a vial of another ex’s blood – Billy Bob Thornton’s – around her neck.

One reason that Brad and Ines may have wanted to fly under the radar until now was that de Ramon only finalised her divorce from Wesley in February 2024. But Pitt and Jolie’s acrimonious divorce is ongoing, and the Venice Film Festival’s artistic director, Alberto Barbera, revealed Pitt and his ex-wife were strategically scheduled to avoid any chance of running into one another.

“Angelina will be on the first day, on Thursday, and she will leave right after with [Maria director] Pablo Larraín to go to Telluride [film festival in Colorado],” he told Vanity Fair. “So Brad will arrive only on Saturday, to Venice. There is no way that they can cross each other.”

“The timing of Brad and Ines going public is very interesting,” says Rachel Richardson, who writes the pop culture newsletter Highly Flammable. “The cynic in me wonders if their decision to step out at the Venice Film Festival was a headline-stealing ploy, given the fact Angelina Jolie is also there promoting her film.”

After separating from Jolie, Pitt was linked to the models Emily Ratajkowski and Nicole Poturalski, and – perhaps more surprisingly – the MIT professor and architect Neri Oxman. A source says: “He likes women who challenge him in every way, especially in the intellect department. Brad has seen how happy and different Amal has made George. It has given him something to think about.”

“After so many high-profile relationships, maybe Brad will have more luck with a normie,” says Richardson. “I am in awe of Ines de Ramon’s confidence. Posing in front of the world next to Amal, George and Brad would be intimidating to anyone, but she more than holds her own. She’s a stunning woman who is very accomplished in her own right and it’s testament to Brad’s regime that the 26-year age gap between them isn’t that obvious.”

Indeed, Pitt, now 60, was looking so youthful at Venice that rumours of a facelift have since gone viral.

Or maybe it’s just the flush of being in love? Sources close to the couple say he’s “never been happier” and that they have been trying for a baby for a year. Brad already has six children with Jolie, but reportedly has “virtually no contact” with his four adult kids and visitation rights with his two younger children.

In Venice, Jolie, 49, was moved to tears by an eight-minute standing ovation for her movie Maria, a biopic of the opera singer Maria Callas. Meanwhile, Brad and Ines were pictured with Amal and George on a double date on a mahogany boat (in co-ordinating outfits), and made quite the entrance when they arrived at the festival, with Brad wearing statement yellow trousers. Since his split with Jolie, Pitt’s been celebrated for his “dopamine dressing”, and now regularly wears bright colours on the red carpet, after years of matching monochrome in the Jolie era.

Ines and Brad is sad news for everyone who hoped that Brad might get back together with Jennifer Aniston, after the former couple were pictured holding hands at the SAG awards in 2020. But although “Braines” doesn’t have quite the same ring to it as “Brangelina”, maybe this new A-list couple will go the distance. And if he does pop the question, at least Ines will know exactly where to get the ring.
