How common do you think your current favorite baby name is?

Parenting website BabyCenter ranked the top 100 most popular baby names for the year of 2024 this past October. According to their website, these rankings are based off of “true popularity” and are updated daily.

“As BabyCenter members tell us what name they picked for their baby, we share the popularity rankings with you,” the website said. “It’s a great way to get an early look at the year’s most popular names, since the official U.S. government list of names for this year won’t be released until next year.”

The two most popular baby names for boys and girls

2024’s most popular baby names for boys and girls are Olivia and Noah, so far.

Olivia is a Latin name meaning olive tree and was popularized by the William Shakespeare play, “Twelfth Night,” with the character of Countess Olivia, a beautiful and driven noblewoman.

The Noah is of Hebrew origin and means “rest” or “comfort.” It also calls to mind the Biblical character of Noah, who built an ark, heeding God’s warnings of a great flood engulfing the Earth.

Of course, it’s possible that these two names rose to the number one spot due to the popularity of musical artists like Olivia Rodrigo and Vermont’s Noah Kahan.
