The Pennsylvania Farm Show starts this weekend. Here’s what’s new at the food court!

This year marks the 109th Pennsylvania Farm Show, the largest indoor agricultural expo in the nation featuring animal exhibits, competitive events, square dancing, and one of the most popular farm show attractions: the food court.

Located in the Expo Hall and Main Hall at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex & Expo Center, the food court offers a variety of savory and sweet options made and grown right here in Pennsylvania.

This year, Farm Show attendees can expect to see a few different options in the food court, including the Pennsylvania Dairymen’s brand-new milkshake flavor and new menu item grilled cheese sandwiches. Other offerings new to the Farm Show include breaded mushrooms with hot honey by Pennsylvania Mushroom Farmers, and loaded fries by the Pennsylvania Cooperative Potato Growers, Inc.

Here’s what to try:

Stuffed Baby Bella Mushrooms

Today, more than 60 percent of all mushrooms produced in the U.S. are grown in Pennsylvania, and at the Farm Show, the Pennsylvania Mushroom Farmers prepare the state’s No. 1 cash crop in a variety of delicious ways.

One tasty option is the stuffed baby bella mushrooms, which comes with four bite-sized mushrooms that come in two flavors, artichoke and spinach or bacon and cheese. For an added kick and hint of sweetness, the mushroom farmers are offering hot honey as a condiment to their items this year.

The mushrooms are soft, flavorful and burst in your mouth. Paired with a drizzle of the hot honey, flavored with cayenne pepper, this is a great starter for your food hall quest.

Grilled Cheese

Reminiscent of a childhood school lunch, the grilled cheese offered by the Dairymen’s Association comes in two flavors: cheddar and pepperjack. It’s a great on-the-go snack to keep you satisfied but not completely full as you roam the other vendors.

Flying Porker

When it comes to sandwiches, stews, and hot dogs, the Pennsylvania Livestock Association is bringing the meat. Two of their most popular dishes that sell out quick every year are the flying porker, a sandwich with fork-tender pork and beef, and lamb stew. And it’s true, on the second day of the farm show last year, they ran out just as I was ready to order some.

Potato Doughnut

A fan favorite and musty-try item at the farm show year in and year out, the soft and slightly chewy potato doughnut is made with a secret, dry starch mix and comes in three flavors: powdered, plain and Cinnamon sugar. Looking for an indulgent treat? Top it off with ice cream.

Mint Milkshake

Mint seems to be that flavor in dessert people either love or hate. If you’re a fan of mint chocolate chip (I am) then you’ll love the mint milkshake. It’s quite refreshing in taste and thick in texture. The Pennsylvania Dairymen’s Association has been a vendor with the Farm Show since 1955, and every year they typically sell at least 1,000 milkshakes each show.
