The Queen’s favourite takeaway dish she’d have delivered to Balmoral – and it costs just £10

Although she dined on the finest meals the world had to offer, the late Queen Elizabeth II also found joy in the simpler pleasures – including the occasional takeaway whilst staying at Balmoral Castle. She would even be known to instruct a footman to pick up her favourite dish from the nearby village of Ballater, it has been reported. An inside source told Fabulous magazine: “She very occasionally treated herself to fish and chips when at Balmoral. A footman is dispatched to get it from the local town of Ballater.”

Her taste for fast food didn’t end there; Her Majesty reportedly enjoyed kebabs as well. Royal correspondent Jayne Seymour was informed by Hello! magazine that Krazy Kebabs in Swaffham once received a phone call placing an order for Sandringham House.

The delivery driver shared their surprise with Ms Seymour, stating: “I assumed the food was for a servant. But when I got to the entrance a butler took it and said it was for the Queen. I hope she enjoyed it, we are known for the best kebabs in Norfolk,” reports the Daily Record. Prince William too has been open about his penchant for quick eats, particularly from popular chicken chain Nando’s.

On BBC documentary Football, Prince William and Our Mental Health, which aired in May 2020, he confessed: “Everyone loves a Nando’s,” and disclosed that it had been some time since he indulged in one of their burgers or pitas, jokingly blaming his accompanying officer: “In fact, the policeman who’s on with me again [today], he’s the one who gets me the Nando’s the whole time. It’s his fault.”

In 2017, Kate Middleton, during a BBC Radio 1 interview with Prince William, let slip that curry is her top choice for a takeaway, stating: “Curry, definitely,” though she acknowledged that William isn’t much of a fan since he’s not into spicy food. The couple amusingly conceded: “It doesn’t usually get ordered to the palace, we tend to go and pick it up,” followed by a chuckle as they clarified, “not ourselves!”

Queen Camilla, in an intimate conversation with her son Tom Parker Bowles for YOU Magazine, shared her partiality for a classic British staple, quoting: “Freshly cooked fish and chips, wrapped in paper. That smell. You cannot beat proper fish and chips.”

King Charles has a distinct preference when it comes to fast-food indulgences, particularly for pizza. In November 2019, while engaging with locals in St Boswells, Scotland, he was greeted with a Margherita pizza and responded gratefully; reports claim he remarked ‘it’s my favourite”. Chef Erminio Di Meo expressed his enthusiasm after presenting King Charles with the Italian dish, telling the Press Association: “I wanted to give him the pizza as he is such a big part of this country. He was curious, he smiled and I said ‘it’s a margherita’. I believe the Prince said ‘it’s my favourite’.” For the latest Welsh news delivered to your inbox sign up to our newsletter.
