The UK has seen its first snow of the season as an Arctic blast of cold air sweeps across the nation.
As if getting up in the morning isn’t hard enough when it’s frosty outside, the thought of scraping the ice off your car might really be your final reason to give up on the day and stay in bed.

This week the temperature is expected to remain low in Manchester, feeling like around -2 degrees until the weekend when it luckily turns a bit milder.
If you need to get up in the morning and drive to work, you might have strolled outside this week to find your windscreen frozen over. By the time you clear it, it has made you late for work!
But by using items you likely already have at home, you can clear the ice from your windscreen without freezing your hands or wasting important minutes you could stay in bed.
This viral hack has been praised by drivers across social media.
All you need is warm water and a freezer bag. Chances are you already own the household essential. But if not, a pack of 15 XL freezer bags from Tesco cost £2.75 – making each freezer bag just 18p.
Here’s what you need to do.
Simply grab your freezer bag and pop the kettle on. While the water is boiling, add some cold water into the plastic bag. Once the kettle has boiled, wait for it to cool down slightly and add some hot water into the bag.
You can put the bag into a glass to hold it open while you pour the water in to make it easier. Make sure you don’t fill it all the way up – just a little bit will do. Then, close it up – ensuring the bag’s properly sealed – and take it outside.
It’s worth switching on the engine and putting on the heating in the meantime as back-up. Next, pop the bag of warm water on the glass windshield and gently wipe away the ice.
It should melt away instantly. Some people have found that the cold weather can cause the melted ice to refreeze pretty quickly, so make sure you wipe up the warm water to prevent this from happening.
You must never use boiling water on your window screen as this could cause the glass to crack. And, of course, be extra careful when handling the hot water and the bag, to avoid any burns.
