The Ford Motor Company has issued a recall for some 4595 examples of the 2024 Ford Mustang, due to a batch of faulty rear suspension knuckles. These defective components are more likely to fail than a properly sorted unit, increasing the possibility of a crash or injury.

According to the recall notice filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on August 9, all of the impacted pony cars were built at the Flat Rock Assembly plant between July 25 and September 15, 2023.

The issue is related to the casting process of the rear suspension hardware. During casting, debris may have have entered the castings; the presence of this debris could ultimately weaken the aforementioned knuckles, increasingly the likelihood of a fracture. Ford says a fractured knuckle can reduce the amount of lateral stiffness provided by the suspension, resulting in massive camber and caster changes under braking or acceleration. Drivers experiencing this issue may lose control of the vehicle, potentially resulting in a crash or possible injury.

Ford says it is not aware of any crashes or injuries related to the bad batch of suspension parts. The automaker became aware of the issue back in June, after servicing two Mustangs with broken rear knuckles.

Ford dealers will be tasked with resolving the issue, with repairs slated to be free of charge for owners. Ford’s recall filings for its dealers even make note of optional pick-up and drop-off services, to make sure customers don’t have to get behind the wheel of the damaged machines.

Customer letters to affected parties will be mailed out on August 26, but Mustang owners can reach out to Ford directly for more information by visiting the automaker’s recall website, or calling the helpline at 1-866-436-7332. The recall campaign number is 24V593000. NHTSA’s website also allows you to search for recall information with your VIN at the link provided here.
