Travis Kelce has eaten the same pregame meal since he joined the Chiefs: Exclusive

Travis Kelce is gearing up for his first game of his 12th year of professional football, and that means we’re pretty sure we know what he ate for breakfast.

On Sept. 5, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end faces off against the Baltimore Ravens in the first game of the 2024 NFL season. So, of course, we had to ask what he ate for breakfast the morning of last year’s big game.

“Oh, I swear that morning passed in a blur,” Kelce tells TODAY.com over email. “My mind was on the task at hand. But it was probably my usual pregame meal, French toast and some strawberries. I’ve eaten it before all my games since being a Chief. I’d say it’s served me well so far.”

Kelce also says that after a game, his usual go-to is pizza — depending on who’s around — but he’s also been known to go with a quick sandwich like peanut butter and jelly if he’s on the run.

As an athlete, Kelce has to put away a lot of food, so it makes sense that he’s often thinking about it — he has a pre-prepared food line at Walmart and a restaurant venture with teammate Patrick Mahomes among other ventures.

And, like many athletes, he’s thinking about his personal diet.

“It all starts in the off season; my chef and I have got a good system in place that works well,” Kelce says. “I have a little more room when I’m traveling to try local food and stuff, but during the season my focus is to carb-load.”

Indeed, he showed his ability to sample local cuisine when he ate a full English breakfast on the June 26 episode of his podcast.

“It’s a long season and if you don’t have the energy or endurance, it gets rough,” he continues. “I’d say that’s the main shift throughout — I wouldn’t say I’m picky eater, but I definitely am consistent in the things I like.”

One of those things he likes oh so much is cereal.

Kelce Mix, the General Mills cereal he created with brother Jason Kelce, has officially launched and this man is now truly everywhere. (According to General Mills, the cereal will start popping up in stores in September.)

“Being able to do this with my brother has turned a business partnership into a special life memory,” Kelce says. “Jason and I love to reminisce and acknowledge how much we have to be grateful for.” He says the experience of creating this custom box gave them another chance to do that, and, of course, gave them an “excuse to eat our favorite cereals.”

Kelce Mix combines the brothers’ top three favorites into one bowl: Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Lucky Charms and Reese’s Puffs.

“We used to go through boxes and now we’re on the box,” Kelce adds. “Wild!”

Kelce first made his top cereals known on his “New Heights” podcast with Jason in December 2023. The conversation caught the attention of General Mills and, well, the rest was cereal history,

The duo now appear in an TV ad for General Mills called “Cereal Training Camp,” which debut on Aug. 19. Kelce gets to add this spot to his growing collection of TV appearances along with a brand-new Pepsi “Gladiator II” commercial and his dramatic acting debut in the trailer for FX’s “Grotesquerie.”

Since Kelce Mix is now an official General Mills cereal, it shares shelves with Wheaties, another breakfast cereal closely associated with sport. As for how he’d feel about appearing on the box, Kelce says “That would be legendary.”

It would also be legendary for the Chiefs to achieve something no other team in the NFL has ever been able to do: win three back-to-back Super Bowls.

“I would love to be on the Wheaties Box!” he continues. “I was a huge hockey fan growing up and Wheaties had all the greats. To be on the same box as Gretzky? Alright nah!”
