Truck driver dies, northbound I-95 shut down Tuesday after fiery crash in Harford County

An “extended” closure is in place for northbound Interstate 95 in Harford County as crews battle the fiery aftermath of a fatal crash Tuesday morning, according to Maryland State Police.

Troopers responded at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday to northbound I-95 near the Maryland House Travel Plaza and found a pickup truck had crashed into a tractor-trailer that was parked on the right shoulder, police said.

The driver of the pickup truck, who was not identified, died at the scene, police said. The pickup truck caught fire, spreading to the tractor-trailer, which a state police spokesperson said was carrying batteries.

No other injuries were reported, police said. Officials recommend taking US Route 40 and US Route 1 as alternate routes, as all lanes of northbound I-95 near the scene were closed for what was expected to be an “an extended road closure” as crews fight the fire.
