Tuscaloosa gas station shooting leads to charges against 19-year-old

A 19-year-old man was arrested in connection with a Monday shooting that left one person injured at a Tuscaloosa gas station.

Jason Martez Curry-Benson was charged with attempted murder and discharging a weapon into an occupied building, said Capt. Jack Kennedy of the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit. Curry-Benson was taken to the Tuscaloosa County Jail, where he is being held without bond. The bond will be set later by the court.

At around 10:30 a.m., officers with the Tuscaloosa Police Department responded to the Shell Gas station at 3112 Greensboro Ave after a shooting was reported. An 18-year-old man, who had a non-life-threatening gunshot wound he received at the gas station. was taken to DCH Regional Medical Center by a private vehicle, Kennedy said.

The Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit was called to assume command of the investigation.

As a result of the investigation, Curry-Benson was arrested and charged with attempted murder and discharging a weapon into an occupied building. Curry-Benson was taken into custody with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals task force later Monday evening.
