When the Founding Fathers wrote the U.S. Constitution, they envisioned three distinct branches of government; legislative, executive and judiciary.

These were balanced with numerous checks and balances so no one branch could seize too much power or authority over the other two branches.

However this is no longer true in today’s partisan political environment. There is now only branch in our government today.

Kash Patel, U.S. President Donald Trump's nominee to be Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), greets U.S. Sen. The U.S. Senate and House (legislative branch) and even the Supreme Court (judicial branch) have surrendered their authority over to Donald Trump’s MAGA “party”. A convicted felon now has control over all three branches of government.

Numerous Cabinet nominees who are unqualified and in some cases dangerous, have been confirmed by the Senate with barely a whimper from the Republicans.

They are nothing more than yes-men and -women to whatever Trump wants.

I grew up in the 1960s to a conservative Republican family. That party no longer exists. I miss the Republican Party of the late U.S. Sen. Howard Baker who coexisted and worked with Democrats to get policies passed for the good of the country.

We now have only one legitimate political party. We need two.
