Union Center to honor retiring pastor

Aug. 10—NAPPANEE — Union Center Church of the Brethren announced that it will be holding an open house in honor of its pastor, Frank Ramirez, as he retires after 45 years of pastoral ministry in the Church of the Brethren.

The open house will take place Sunday, Aug. 25, from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at the church, 70535 C.R. 11. All are welcome.

The event will take place the day Ramirez preaches his final sermon at the 10 a.m. worship service.

According to information provided by the church, “By his count he has preached more than 2,500 sermons.”

The message, based on 2 Chronicles 36:22-23 and Revelation 21:1-5, will be titled “So Long, and Thanks For All The Fish.”

He and his spouse Jennie share three adult children and six grandchildren. They will celebrate 50 years of marriage next year. Future plans include further writing, reading, travel, exercise, working together on the garden and yard, home improvements, occasional pulpit fill, and, possibly, rest.

Ramirez received a Bachelor of Arts degree at La Verne (California) College (1972-1976) and a Master of Divinity degree at Bethany Theological Seminary (1976-1979). He began service as a Church of the Brethren pastor July 29, 1979, and officially retires at the end of August. He served the Ladera (Los Angeles), Elkhart Valley (Indiana), Everett (Pennsylvania), and Union Center Churches of the Brethren. He also served the denomination in the Annual Conference Program and Arrangements Committee, the People of the Covenant Bible Study committee, the denomination’s General Board, and the Board of Directors of Bethany Theological Seminary. Along the way he served the communities where he pastored as a member of local boards, in jail chaplaincy, and volunteering at nursing homes, public schools, and hospice, the statement reads.

As a writer Ramirez has published approximately 30 books, including many Bible studies, as well as Sunday school curriculum and devotional booklets for the Church of the Brethren, Disciples of Christ, United Methodist Church, and ecumenical organizations.

The Union Center Church of the Brethren is located at the corner of C.R.s 11 and 50 near Nappanee.
