Urbana man ordered to spend decades in prison for killing his mother in Columbus

A judge sentenced an Urbana man to serve more than two decades in prison after that man admitted to shooting and killing his mother.

Isaiah Daniel, 36, pleaded guilty Tuesday to felony assault, involuntary manslaughter and burglary. He was initially charged with felony assault, domestic violence, burglary and two counts of murder.

Franklin County Common Pleas Judge Jeffrey Brown ordered Daniel to serve at least 28 years in prison, court records show. He could serve up to 33 years and six months.

On May 26, 2021, Columbus police received a call from a home on the 1500 block of Omar Drive on the city’s South Side. Officers found 54-year-old Lisa Tobe with multiple gunshot wounds. Tobe died at the scene.

Columbus police homicide detectives identified Daniel as the gunman and police took him into custody in Urbana.
