US Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer among Donald Trump nominees threatened

U.S Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer, R-Oregon, said she was part of the group of President-elect Donald Trump’s cabinet nominees who were targeted with threats of violence Tuesday night.

Chavez-DeRemer, Trump’s pick for U.S. secretary of labor, said on social media that she and her family received a threat of a pipe bomb at their Happy Valley home.

The Clackamas County Sherriff’s Office confirmed it had responded to a threat and said the FBI was handling the investigation.

“Thanks to the quick response of the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office, we are safe,” Chavez-DeRemer said on Facebook and X. “This kind of violence harms not just the intended targets, but entire communities. It is an unacceptable way to express opposition, and it will not deter President Trump and the team he has assembled from doing the work on behalf of the American people.”

Chavez-DeRemer did not immediately respond to a further request for comment nor did the Portland FBI office.

Trump’s transition team said law enforcement was responding Wednesday to multiple threats to nominees.

“Law enforcement and other authorities acted quickly to ensure the safety of those who were targeted,” said transition spokesperson Karoline Leavitt Leavitt. “President Trump and the entire Transition team are grateful for their swift action.”

An FBI official told USA Today the bureau was actively investigating and was “aware of numerous bomb threats and swatting incidents targeting incoming administration nominees and appointees.”
