(WLAX/WUEX) – The three year anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine came recently, and one UW-Eau Claire student who is a native Ukrainian is speaking up about how it has affected her and her family.
The student moved here in 2022 for high school, and now is a first year college student. She says living so far from her family is not easy, as they are very close to the frontline of the war.
“You never know what kind of notifications you will get in the morning. About the explosions, where they are, if it’s close to your family. We hear explosions every night, or at least that’s what my family says. But they’re just so used them that they don’t even respond or do anything.”

She says she went back to Zaporizhzhia this past summer, and it was devastating to see everything look so different. She says she won’t stop bringing awareness to Ukraine until the war is over and her home country can be restored.
