West Ham star provides update on tearful ball boy after advertising board fell on him

Jarrod Bowen has provided a heart-warming update after West Ham’s 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace led to a scary incident involving a ballboy and a fallen advertising board. He assured fans that the youngster is now “smiling” and “all good now” while also bestowing his match-worn shirt on him as a gesture.

With less than 25 minutes to go, Tomas Soucek’s goal sent the Hammers’ supporters into raptures, but their exuberant celebrations inadvertently led to a collapse of advertising boards, trapping a ballboy in the process. Quick to react, West Ham players, including Soucek, hurried to lift the debris and check on the boy’s well-being.

Following the rescue, the ballboy was checked over by the players before stadium security escorted him off-pitch, later catching up with him once more after the game had concluded.

Speaking to BeIn Sport post-match, Bowen recounted his immediate response: “Yeah, I just managed to grab him out as quickly as possible,” he said. “It was just instinct to do it. I’ve seen him after the game, he’s got my top now. He’s smiling. He’s all good now, which is good to see.”

Soucek was the first to notice the potential danger amid the fan celebrations, ensuring he alerted his fellow players. Bowen quickly responded, assisting in lifting the boy from a possible crush and back onto his feet, reports the Mirror.

Both Bowen and Soucek contributed goals for Julen Lopetegui’s team, with the Czech international scoring first in the 67th minute, followed by Bowen securing the victory five minutes later with his goal.

This win signifies West Ham’s initial victory of the new Premier League season, following their opening day loss to Aston Villa.

West Ham will return to the pitch on Wednesday, hosting Bournemouth in a second round Carabao Cup match. In the meantime, Palace will also be participating in midweek League Cup action as they welcome Norwich on Tuesday evening.
