What is the Old Farmer’s Almanac predicting for January? What to know

It’s almost 2025, and according to The Old Farmer’s Almanac, the year will kick off with some weather that’s on the quieter side.

That’s certainly different than January 2024.

“January 2024 was the 10th-wettest January on record for the nation, and temperature ranked in the middle third of the historical record for the month,” according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administation (NOAA).

Will there be snowstorms this month? Maybe some rain? Or will the drought in Massachusetts continue?

Here’s what to know about the weather in January 2025, according to the Old Farmer’s Almanac.

What kind of weather is predicted for January 2025?

First off, you can expect it be warm.

“Looking at January as a whole, we expect near-to above-average temperatures across New England,” The Old Farmer’s Almanac said.

The Almanac states that at the beginning of the new year, “rain and snow showers will be found across New England,” noting that the whole month is expected to be “on the drier side.”

The Almanac added that “it looks like a chilly day for the (Presidential) inauguration at the Capitol (on Jan. 20), but it will likely be dry with some sunshine.”

AccuWeather expert meteorologists warn there could be a brief period of freezing rain Friday night into Saturday morning across parts of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Vermont and New Hampshire,” according to AccuWeather.

AccuWeather noted most of the precipitation in the northeast through next week will be rain, not snow, but could cause some trouble during holiday travel.
