When is presidential debate between Trump and Harris? 10 things to know

Former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris will face off in their first presidential debate on Sept. 10, eight weeks before the general election on Nov. 5.

The date holds special significance for Floridians: Sept. 10 marks the peak of the Atlantic hurricane season. As of Monday, Sept. 2, the National Hurricane Center is tracking three disturbances. One is expected to become a tropical depression later this week.

Assuming we’re not in the Hurricane Center’s cone of concern, attention in Florida and the rest of the U.S. will be riveted on what Trump and Harris have to say during their debate.

Here’s what we know.

When is the presidential debate?

The debate will take place at 9 p.m. EDT Tuesday, Sept. 10.

Who will host the Trump-Harris debate?

ABC News will host the debate at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia.

How to watch the presidential debate

The debate will air live on ABC.

It also will be livestreamed on ABC News Live 24/7, Disney+ and Hulu.

Trump describes ABC as ‘nastiest’ newscaster in the business

Trump has criticized ABC as “the nastiest and most unfair newscaster in the business.”

Who are the moderators for the Harris-Trump debate?

“World News Tonight” anchor and managing editor David Muir and ABC News Live “Prime” anchor Linsey Davis will moderate, according to ABC.

Are there any ground rules for the debate?

A Trump spokesman said both sides agreed to the same terms as CNN’s June debate between President Joe Biden and Trump.

Microphones were muted when candidates were not speaking and there was not a live audience.

That debate also banned props and included two commercial breaks.

Will mics be muted again during the Trump-Harris debate?

Yes. When candidates are not speaking, their microphones will be muted.

Pre-debate special to air at 8 p.m. Sept. 10

ABC News will air a pre-debate special, “Race for the White House,” anchored by chief global affairs correspondent and “This Week” co-anchor Martha Raddatz, chief Washington correspondent and “This Week” co-anchor Jonathan Karl, chief White House correspondent Mary Bruce and senior congressional correspondent Rachel Scott.

The primetime pre-debate special will air at 8 p.m. EDT, the network announced.

Will Tim Walz and JD Vance debate each other?

Trump’s running mate, Ohio Sen. JD Vance, and Harris’ running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, have both agreed to a vice presidential debate on Oct. 1.

It will be moderated by CBS News.

What happened after first presidential debate between Biden and Trump?

The first presidential debate was held between Biden, 81, and Trump, 78, on June 27.

Biden faced a number of calls after the debate, asking him to drop his reelection bid over concerns about his age and fitness for office, especially after the shaky debate performance against Trump.

“There’s no question the debate sent out shockwaves across the political landscape,” said David Paleologos, director of the Suffolk Political Research Center.

“Democrats in the poll are offering tough love to President Biden by saying to him, ‘You’ve served us well, but try to see yourself last Thursday night through our eyes. Hold your head up high, it’s time to go.’

Biden said it was his Democratic colleagues’ concerns he would hurt the party in down-ballot races, not poll numbers, that led to his decision to exit the race.
