Americans saw former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris debate earlier this month. But debate season isn’t over.

Here’s what to know about the upcoming debate between Walz and Vance, including who is moderating and how to watch.

Who are Vice President nominees? Overview of each running mate

The contenders for the United States presidential seat chose their running mates at the end of July and beginning of August. Here’s what to know about each candidate:

Who is JD Vance?

Ohio Senator J. D. (James David) Vance, 39, was picked by Trump to be the next GOP vice-presidential candidate for the United States of America,.

He rose to fame with his best-selling 2016 memoir, “Hillbilly Elegy,” which described a childhood consumed by poverty and abuse. Vance served as a public affairs officer in the Marine Corps in Iraq. Despite Vance’s public criticism of Trump in the past, he has aligned with Trump on issues like immigration, abortion and election integrity.

Who is Tim Walz?

Harris announced Walz as her vice presidential running mate on Aug. 7. In addition to being Minnesota’s governor, Walz, 60, is also a former teacher, coach, and congressman, as well as a U.S. Army National Guard veteran.

Walz was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2006 and served 12 years before being elected governor of Minnesota in 2018 and again in 2022. During his time as governor, he has pushes for several progressive policies, including free school meals, tax cuts for the middle class, and protections for abortion rights.

When is the next presidential debate?

More than 67 million viewers tuned in to watch Trump debate Harris, on Sept. 10, not counting people streaming it or watching on PBS. So will we see another match up before the election? It’s unlikely.

Moments after the debate ended, an email from the Harris-Walz campaign slammed Trump again and ended with, “Vice President Harris is ready for a second debate. Is Donald Trump?”

Meanwhile, Trump was telling reporters that since he won, he didn’t need to go again but “we’ll see.” By the next morning, Trump told Fox News he wasn’t sure he wanted or needed to debate again.

“I’d be less inclined to because we had a great night. We won the debate. We had a terrible, a terrible network,” Trump said. Since then he has said in interviews and at rallies that there was no need for a “rematch,” although he has also mused that he might if he was in the right mood.

Trump later declined a CNN invitation for a second debate for Wednesday, Oct. 23, telling supporters at a rally in Wilmington, North Carolina that “It’s just too late — voting has already started.” He also said he’d done two already — the first was against President Joe Biden, which went so poorly for him that he dropped out of the race in favor of Harris — and that he didn’t think CNN would be fair.

Harris accepted the invitation, saying in a post on X she hoped Trump would reconsider meeting her on the debate stage.
