What a difference a day will make.
North Texans may enjoy balmy, unseasonably warm weather on Friday with a high of 72 degrees only to be plunged into the deep freeze on Saturday.
If National Weather Service expectations are accurate, area residents may stay in the latter for quite a while.
The NWS also introduced the âSâ word into their forecast â snow.
As of Thursday, prognosticators were only talking about âflurriesâ for North Texas.

The big story for the next few days will be teeth-chattering cold. A tolerable daytime high of 43 degrees on Saturday will usher in a cold front. The villain will be strong north winds blowing up to 28 mph and making the day feel much colder.
The mercury is expected to drop to 19 degrees overnight Saturday and not rise much above freezing on Sunday. Monday â Martin Luther King Day â will dawn at about 15 degrees with the possibility of flurries or light snow showers during the day.
NWS predicts a break from freezing temperatures on Wednesday but is looking at another chance of Canadian Arctic cold sweeping into the area later next week.
The Electric Reliability Council of Texas, the agency that oversees the electrical grid in the state, said on its Facebook page it is monitoring the approaching cold but expects grid conditions to remain normal.
