The City of Lexington is preparing for inclement weather ahead of its festivities planned for the Fourth of July.
National Weather Service meteorologists are predicting high chances of rain showers and thunderstorms throughout Thursday. The chance for precipitation Thursday is 80% with the storms beginning as early as Wednesday afternoon.
The city of Lexington has numerous events Fourth of July events planned for Thursday. All are planned to take place rain or shine, but may be delayed or even canceled if inclement weather is present.
Here is the city’s plans for inclement weather related to its planned events:
Patriotic Concert at Transy
The concert is planned to take place at Transylvania University and Gratz Park Wednesday beginning at 5 p.m. The city said if inclement weather is expected then officials may delay the show.
Bluegrass 10,000 and Fun Run
The race is scheduled to start at 7:25 a.m. Thursday for the wheelchair racers followed by the runners and walkers approximately five minutes later. The city said rain is likely throughout the race but it will continue unless there is high wind or severe weather, which may delay the start.
Fourth of July Festival and Market
The festival is planned to take place at the Robert F. Stephens Courthouse Plaza while the market will be at Henry A. Tandy Centennial Park from 10 a.m.- 3 p.m. Thursday. The city said if severe weather is present the area will be cleared for a delay and people should seek shelter.
Public Reading of the U.S. Declaration of Independence
The reading is scheduled happen at the historic Lexington Courthouse on Main Street 10 a.m. Thursday Similar to the festival and market, people will be encouraged to seek shelter if severe weather is present.
Lexington 4th of July Parade
The parade is scheduled to take place on Main Street beginning at noon Thursday. The city says they plan to delay the parade if inclement weather is present, but if the delay is extended past 1 p.m., the parade will be canceled.
Fourth of July Fireworks Spectacular
The city’s 4th of July firework show will be launched from the R.J. Corman Rail Yard at 10 p.m. Thursday The city said improved weather is expected but the start may be delayed if the forecast changes. If severe weather persists the firework show will reschedule to the same time the following day.
Summer Nights — Red, White and Blues
The event is scheduled to take place Friday at 7 p.m. at Moondance Amphitheater. The city said the show may be canceled or delayed if inclement weather is present.
