Snowpack and some clearing along Interstate 70 points south are the two reasons that parts of the area are much colder.

Ritz says temperatures will fall to around nine degrees in Dayton and wind chills could drop to -12.

Temperatures will stay in the teens north of I-70 as cloud cover will trap the cold air.

Ritz states where there is some clearing, freezing fog is possible further south. There is lower confidence in this, but the possibility is there.

Freezing fog can make any surface slick, including sidewalks, stairs, handrails, etc.
