A 19-year-old woman has died after being attacked by a suspected XL bully dog in Bristol.
Police were called to an address in the Hartcliffe area of the city at around 7.20pm on Wednesday. Two people have been arrested after the incident, Avon and Somerset Police said.
A man and woman, both in their 20s, were detained on suspicion of being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control causing injury resulting in death, and possession of a prohibited breed of dog. They remain in police custody.
The dog will be assessed by veterinary experts, although Somerset police said initial reports suggested that it âmay be an XL Bullyâ.

Confirming the breed will form part of the assessment process, the force added.
A neighbour, who lives close to the scene of the attack, said the woman had only lived in the property a few weeks.
âShe seemed a lovely girl,â said the neighbour, who did not wish to give her name.
âI am still trying to process this. I was up all night awake trying to process this. I am shocked. I just canât believe itâs happened and she hasnât been there that long.â
The woman said she was certain the dog was an XL bully and had seen it on a lead with its owner.
âI do feel so sad for the dog owner. She did mention the dog wasnât great with men, fine with women and children,â she added.
âFull investigation well under wayâ
Terry Murphy, a neighbourhood inspector, said: âOur thoughts, first and foremost, are with the family of the young woman whoâs tragically died as a result of yesterday eveningâs incident. They have been updated, and will be supported by a family liaison officer.

âIâd also like to thank the officers and paramedics who attended yesterday evening and tried to save her life. Support is in place for them.
âA full investigation is now well under way to establish the full circumstances of the events that led to her death.
âThere will be an increased police presence in the area over the coming days, including neighbourhood officers. If you have any concerns, please do speak to them.â
