A 27-year-old woman was arrested after she drove her car into a Peoria restaurant while allegedly driving under the influence of an intoxicating compound.
Peoria police arrested Malika R. Gillum on Monday after she allegedly crashed her vehicle into Sharkey’s on the 3100 block of Sterling Avenue on Sunday night.
Police responded to the restaurant around 8:16 p.m. Sunday night on a report that a vehicle had crashed into the building.
Two patrons sustained injuries, according to police.
Gillum was transported to a local hospital and treated for minor injuries. She was later released to police and charged Monday with one count of criminal damage to property, along with additional counts of DUI with an intoxicating compound, disregarding a traffic control device, failure to reduce speed and not having valid registration.
The Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office filed a motion to set conditions for her pre-trial release, with a hearing scheduled for Monday, with Circuit Judge Mark Gilles presiding over the proceedings.
Gillum is currently being held at the Peoria County Jail.
