Woman charged in hit-and-run death of one-year-old boy

A 26-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash that killed a one-year-old boy on Thursday, according to the Yates County Sheriff’s Office.

Sarah E. Olsen, of Penn Yan, has been charged with two felonies: Leaving the scene of an incident without reporting and criminally negligent homicide, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The crash occurred around 4:30 p.m. on State Route 364 in the Town of Benton, when a vehicle, traveling west on State Route 364, struck the child near the intersection with Carroll Road and fled the scene, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The boy, whose identity has not been released, was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Olsen was arraigned in Yates County Centralized Arraignment Part Court and released on her own recognizance, police said.
