Woman invited to Daytona Beach apartment raped by self-described hit man, police say

A Daytona Beach man invited a woman waiting for a friend at a park to his apartment and then raped her, police said.

Harold Fletcher, 66, told the woman at Joe Harris Park on Pearl Street that she could come to his apartment and wait there until her friend got off work, Daytona Beach police said.

Fletcher was charged with false imprisonment and sexual battery and was in the Volusia County Branch Jail on Monday without bail.

Once at Fletcher’s apartment, he asked the woman to come to his room where he gave her a glass of water and allowed her to charge her cell phone, police said.

After a while the victim started feeling uncomfortable and tried to leave but Fletcher stopped her and closed the door, an arrest report shows.

“The male walked to the door and put his hand on it and closed it while stating “that’s not how this goes” while reminding (the victim) that he got her water and allowed her to charge her phone,” police wrote in their report.

Fletcher asked the victim if she was a cop or snitch and told her that he “does people in” for a living, which the victim took to mean that he killed people. Fletcher told the woman that if she went to the cops she would be “gone,” investigators said.

Out of fear, the woman complied with his sexual demands against her will, investigators said.
