CLEVELAND (WJW) – Two people were rushed to the hospital early Friday morning after a wrong-way driver slammed into another vehicle on Interstate 71.
The crash happened shortly after 1 a.m. Friday on I-71 south near West 130th Street.
According to EMS, both of the drivers are alive but were taken to MetroHealth Medical Center in critical condition.

The crash was caught on a dashcam video that shows the wrong-way driver northbound on I-71 south. In the video, an SUV slams on the brakes before being hit by the wrong-way driver in a white car.
Our FOX 8 photographer on scene said the driver who was hit was outside the vehicle, walking around after the accident, before EMS arrived. Meanwhile the wrong-way driver had to be pulled out of the vehicle by Cleveland Fire Department, which took about 15 minutes.

The identities of the people have not yet been released, but according to EMS, the two drivers were a 56-year-old woman and a 33-year-old man.
It’s not clear how long the person was driving the wrong way on the highway, but multiple people did call 911 to try and get him stopped.
