The Yankees are calling up infielder Jorbit Vivas for his MLB debut, according to SNY MLB Insider Andy Martino.
J.D. Davis is being placed on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to July 9) with the stomach flu in the corresponding move.
Vivas, the No. 15 prospect in the Yanks’ system according to MLB Pipeline, has an .823 OPS in 37 games this season with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
He has been particularly hot of late with a .329 average and 1.080 OPS in his last 20 games.
In 169 plate appearances in 2024 with the RailRiders, the 23-year-old has five doubles, a triple and five home runs while batting .258 with 29 walks and 31 strikeouts (.404 OBP and .424 slugging percentage). Vivas has posted a .380 wOBA and 122 wRC+ at Scranton.
The left-handed swinger has primarily played second (27 games) and third base (15) across the minors this year.
Vivas came to the Yankees in a December 2023 trade with the Los Angeles Dodgers arriving alongside LHP Victor Gonzalez in exchange for shortstop Trey Sweeney, the No. 8 prospect in the Yanks’ system at the time of the trade.
Vivas hit 13 home runs, tallied 63 RBI and slashed .269/.381/.407 for a .788 OPS across 135 games in Double-A and Triple-A during 2023.
Davis, had one hit in 13 at-bats over 15 games for New York on the year. He began the year with the Oakland A‘s before he arrived in a June trade (with cash considerations) for minor league third baseman Jordan Groshans.
The 31-year-old ex-Met was slashing .236/.304/.355 for a .670 OPS in 39 games with Oakland.
