With the 2024 season right around its midway point, MLB Pipeline released an updated Top 100 Prospects list, and three Yankees made the cut: outfielder Jasson Dominguez (No. 26), outfielder Spencer Jones (No. 75), and RHP Chase Hampton (No. 83).
Since the last Top 100 update in May, one Yankees prospect, shortstop Roderick Arias, dropped off the list. He had previously been ranked at No. 84.
Dominguez, 21, continues to be one of the most exciting hitting prospects in the game, despite coming off of 2023 Tommy John surgery.
Playing across three levels as part of his rehab assignment earlier this season, Dominguez slashed .356/.404/.609 with six home runs and 13 RBI in 23 games before suffering an oblique injury that will keep him out for an extended period.
Meanwhile, both Jones and Hampton dropped on the list but stayed in the Top 100. Jones, who went from No. 65 to No. 75, has had a so-so season for Double-A Somerset, slashing .252/.332/.420 with nine home runs and 45 RBI. His big issue has been strikeouts, as he’s punched out 107 times in 262 at-bats.
Hampton’s drop from No. 71 to No. 83 is likely due to the fact that the 22-year-old has been out for nearly the entire season with a UCL sprain. Hampton finally made his first rehab start in the Florida Complex League on Monday, pitching 1.1 innings while allowing one earned run on one hit with two strikeouts and two walks.
Spencer Jones, Brock Selvidge selected to play in Futures Game
The NL and AL rosters for the 2024 All-Star Futures Game were announced on Tuesday, and two Yankees will take the field in Arlington, Texas.
Jones and left-handed pitcher Brock Selvidge will represent the Yanks on July 13 as some of baseball’s future stars get a chance to shine in the national spotlight.
Jones will look to put his power on display, while Selvidge looks to continue his solid season, as he’s pitched to a 3.95 ERA for Double-A Somerset.
Selvidge, 21, is the Yankees’ No. 10 prospect, according to MLB Pipeline.
