“You’re going to sit here with my bird?”: Jealous man, 37, slashed ‘love rival’ across the head after finding him drinking at his girlfriend’s house

“You’re going to sit here with my bird?”: Jealous man, 37, slashed ‘love rival’ across the head after finding him drinking at his girlfriend’s house

A thug attacked a man after finding him drinking at his girlfriend’s house.

Nathan Lee, 37, went round to his partner’s home in Wythenshawe in the early hours of the morning after receiving a call from her friend. He and the man began arguing before a physical fight took place, Manchester Crown Court heard.

Lee, of Wythenshawe, grabbed a knife and lashed out at the man, causing a four inch wound to his head. As the man fled from the house, Lee followed him, asking: “You’re going to sit here with my bird?” as the man explained it was ‘not like that’.

He attacked him again, before the man threw himself over a neighbours wall. Lee pleaded guilty to wounding with intent and was jailed for five years and 10 months.

Tom Farr, prosecuting, said the victim had been drinking at a pub in Wythenshawe when he was invited round to Lee’s partner’s house where they continued to drink with others.

They carried on drinking until the early hours, alongside another man, the court heard.

“A short while later the defendant came to the house. Shortly after he began to argue with the victim before there was a physical altercation,” Mr Parr said.

“The victim ended up on top of the defendant before the defendant reached for a knife that had been used to open a tin of point. He then stabbed him, though he accepts his actions were not a defence.”

He slashed the man across the head before he managed to flee the house, followed by Lee.

He then said to him: “You’re going to sit here with my bird?” before the victim replied that it was ‘not like that’.

“The defendant followed him and struck him again in the stomach area, though he did not make contact,” the prosecutor continued. “He was forced to throw himself over a neighbour’s wall to get away from the defendant.”

In a victim impact statement, the man said he had been left with a four-inch scar to his head, as well as an injury to his hand which meant he could no longer work as a heating engineer.

“It has become difficult to write and I can no longer give my little boy a thumbs up,” he said.

“It has impacted how I am with my kids, I find these things difficult to talk about. My kids don’t deserve the dad I am at the moment.”

Lee was said to have 29 previous convictions for 47 offences on his record, including for drug dealing, assault and firearm offences.

Mitigating, Richard Vardon said his client was a family man and a father to two children, but accepted he had an ‘extensive criminal record’.

“He has always accepted he caused those injuries – it took place in the heat of the moment,” he added.

Sentencing, Judge Timothy Smith said: “You used that knife with an intent to cause him really serious harm – and that is exactly what you did. He was left with lacerations to his head and his left arm.”

Lee, of Mossdale Road, was jailed for five years and 10 months for an offence of wounding with intent, of which he must serve two thirds of his sentence in prison.
