Zelensky: Russia dropped 1,100 glide bombs on Ukraine in past week

Following another week of intense Russian aerial attacks on his country, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Sunday renewed his call for Western allies to help with air defence.

The past week alone saw more than 1,100 attacks with glide bombs and more than 560 drone attacks, Zelensky posted on X.

The Russians also fired around 20 rockets and cruise missiles at the country, according to the president.

Ukraine needs help in protecting its people, stressed Zelensky, who also published a video of the latest destruction.

Cooperation with Western partners is continuing in order to stop the terror of the Russian enemy, he said.

Ukraine’s air defence reported 80 Russian drone attacks just during the previous night. More than half were shot down.

In addition to its ground operations, Russia has been conducting almost daily airstrikes against Ukraine for more than two and a half years. It has repeatedly targeted Ukraine’s energy infrastructure in particular.

In an interview on Russian state television, President Vladimir Putin, who ordered the full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, again warned the West against authorizing Kiev to use supplies of long-range weapons to attack targets deep inside Russia.

Because Ukraine could not carry out such attacks without the help of officers and satellite data from NATO states, Russia would see this as Western involvement in the war, Putin said.

The Russian Ministry of Defence is preparing various response scenarios for this case, he added without giving details.
