STAUNTON — A Waynesboro man accused of impregnating a teenager was sentenced to prison Thursday after pleading guilty to five felony charges in Augusta County Circuit Court.
Carlton J. Williams III, 26, was convicted on three felony counts of possessing child pornography and two felony counts of enticing a child to perform in child pornography. Williams also pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of having consensual sex with a juvenile.
Augusta County Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney Alexandra Meador said the allegations against Williams came to light in January after the juvenile made a report with the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office and claimed Williams had fathered her child.
After authorities obtained a search warrant for Williams’ phone, Meador said they found images of the victim in various stages of undress. There was evidence on the phone that Williams asked the girl for nude photographs, according to Meador, who said there was also a photograph of him and the girl. The prosecutor said some messages on Williams’ phone appeared to show him reaching out to other juveniles.
Meador said the girl was under the age of 17 when Willams, 24 at the time, had consensual sex with her. The girl gave birth in December 2023, the month before she went to the sheriff’s office.
In a plea agreement, Williams was sentenced to a total of five years in prison and placed on five years of probation. He will also be registered as a sex offender and must complete sex offender treatment.
Given a chance to address the court, Williams, who was represented by Trey Raines of the Staunton Public Defender’s Office, declined comment.
Authorities arrested Williams on March 29, just days after he was indicted on the charges by the Augusta County grand jury.
He remains at Middle River Regional Jail in Verona. Williams will eventually be transferred to the Virginia Department of Corrections to serve his sentence.
