Some Bargain Hunt fans witnessed a show first during the latest episode.

For the red team, company directors David and James paired up to scout out a batch of bargains at an antiques warehouse. The father and son were guided by expert Danny Sebastian but were up against the clock with seconds to spare when deciding on their final purchase.

After claiming a vintage wooden crate and bottle set as well as a pocket barometer, they were undecided between a trinket dish and a candelabra. Danny said that anything Danish was “on fire” and “red hot” at auction.

In the end, the men went with the tiny brown dish after believing its brand name would fetch more under the hammer compared to the more modern candle holder. Seemingly put back on the shelf, the item made a surprise reappearance later in the show when Danny opted to spend £9 of David and James’ leftover cash on the Danish wood and metal item.

Having a modest profit of £20 in bank, the men took a gamble on the candelabra. It proved to be their downfall when the auction room fell silent at the sight of the item.

Dad-of-four James had his head in his hands when auctioneer Mary Chilcott’s starting price of £10 plummeted down rapidly. She even joked she’d “buy some candles to put in them” but there was zero interest and they went unsold which David said had him “absolutely wounded”.

Fans of the show reacted on X (Twitter) to the item’s poor performance. One said: “I’ve never seen an item not sell! What happens now?”

Another said: “Ouch, that has to be a painful pill to swallow!”. A third commented: “Not even some free candles could save it!”

The blue team – a pair of friends both called Paul had a much better run of success when their item when under the hammer, scooping £57 in profit. Their standout buy was a pair of bright blue Chinese dog statues that host Natasha Raskin-Sharp said matched their Bargain Hunt jackets perfectly.
