Britain’s Got Talent fans are outraged by this year’s wildcard act

The Britain’s Got Talent final has unveiled its wildcard act.

Chosen by judges Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and Bruno Tonioli, The Trickstars were plucked from obscurity after crashing out of the competition in this week’s semi-finals.

If this trained dog show lead by Lucy Heath wants to pocket that shiny prize of £250,000, they’ll need to outdo Innocent Masuku; Ssaulabi Performance Troupe; Jack Rhodes; Haribow; Sydnie Christmas; Mike Woodhams; Abigail & Afronitaaa; Northants Sings Out; Alex Mitchell, and Trixy.

In the showpiece episode’s opening, BGT co-presenter Dec Donnelly listed each of the 10 previously confirmed finalists before arriving at the mystery wildcard.

Speaking to Cowell a few minutes later, Ant McPartlin asked if it had been a difficult decision to bring back The Trickstars for one more crack at the BGT crown. “You know, the conversation lasted what… 20 seconds? We all said the same act, so it was a very, very, very easy decision,” he chuckled.

Ahead of their The Greatest Showman-themed routine, Lucy told the cameras: “When we were sent home I was absolutely gutted but when I found out the judges had brought us back, obviously that just changed everything. We have to show that we were the right choice, there’s a lot of pressure riding on that!”

Following confirmation of The Trickstars’ reintroduction, the majority of fans posting on social media were pretty miffed about it.

“They’ve brought the dog act back for the wildcard, boreeeee,” wrote one uninspired fan.

“I’m outraged that the bloody dog act is the wildcard there were so many better performances & choices they could’ve made,” fumed somebody else, before a third BGT viewer tweeted: “What a waste of a wildcard. Honestly what are the judges on this week?”

Britain’s Got Talent is available to stream via ITVX.
