Britain’s Got Talent fans demand urgent rule change over dog act

In Europe
April 21, 2024

Britain’s Got Talent returned on ITV1 and ITVX tonight and so did one of the show’s most successful acts – and it led to some grumpy viewers calling for ITV to change the show’s rules.

Dog trainer Lucy was a huge success on Britain’s Got Talent, getting through to the live final and ultimately finishing 7th on the night by the public vote.

And tonight, Lucy announced her return with a new dog: Strike.

She told Simon Cowell she wants to go one step further this time – presumably winning the series rather than 6th place.

And spoiler alert: Lucy also brought back her old dog Trip Hazard midway through the audition.

It turns out you can teach an old dog new tricks, because Trip and Strike then combined for a group dog dance performance.

Unfortunately, some viewers weren’t keen on the act and said the rules shouldn’t allow previous finalists to come back.

@m4ttso said: “There should be an double jeopardy rule.”

@liamandrews1 said: “so she’s doing the same as she did last time she was on but with more dogs??? #bgt #britainsgottalent”

@siiel12 said: “What I don’t understand is how they’re still using the exact same gimmicks they were using in 2009. It’s well beyond its sell by date and there’s been no attempt to rejuvenate it. The continued use of The Greatest Showman in 2024 is also unacceptable. This is a zombie show. #BGT”

But others loved Lucy, Strike and the return of Trip Hazard. Will they win the series this time around?

@aaroncollinsUK said: “I’m sold by any dog but one, or two or three that can do the conga is brilliant! Teach a dog to fetch and if they come back dancing, they’ll win hearts! #BGT”

@aisforawesome15 said: “I’m only watching Britain’s Got Talent if there’s a bad act or a dog act. Flicked over to see what was happening and was not disappointed #BGT”

@realw7crossley said: “That Sydney lass and that dog incredible so far”
