Channel 4 Gogglebox bosses make huge change for first time in 11 years

Channel 4 has announced Gogglebox will undergo a bold new change for the first time since it hit our screens in 2013.

An interesting but simple premise, the series introduced viewers to a range of friends and families who offer their opinions on the week’s best TV programmes. It has proved an incredible hit for Channel 4, with many loyal fans seeing Friday’s Gogglebox as the unofficial start to their weekends.

Since it first appeared on Channel 4, the track Perfect World by Kodaline has played over the opening titles at the start of each episode on Friday nights at 9pm. Over a decade and 23 series later, many of the families and groups of friends filmed watching their own tellies have changed, but the theme tune has always remained the same – until now.

Tonight’s instalment (Friday, April 26), will see the theme tune remixed slightly, with a classical twist. But the change to the BAFTA winning show is only temporary and for one night only, as reported by the Mirror.

A selection of Channel 4’s most iconic theme tunes might sound a little different in the next few days. The title music of shows such as Gogglebox and Countdown has been rearranged and performed on piano in celebration of the second series of The Piano, which begins on Channel 4 on Sunday April 28 at 9pm.

Kodaline frontman Steve Garrigan rearranged the song ‘Perfect World’ and, in tonight’s episode on Channel 4 at 9pm, we will hear the opening and closing music of the series as a piano medley for the first time.

Channel 4 News’ much-loved theme Best Endeavours, originally composed by Alan Hawkshaw, is also celebrating The Piano. Sunday’s news bulletin on Channel 4 at 6.30pm, is set to feature a version of the iconic music that has been rearranged and recorded by Phase Music and Universal Production Music.

The new piano theme tunes will air as follows: Gogglebox, Friday April 26, 9pm. Music by Steve Garrigan, series produced by Studio Lambert, Channel 4 News, Sunday April 28, 6.30pm. Music by Phase Music and Universal Production Music, programme produced by ITN, Countdown, Monday April 29 to Friday May 3, 2.10pm. Music by Steve Holness and Pascal Wyse, series produced by Lifted Entertainment, part of ITV Studios, Come Dine With Me: The Professionals, Monday May 6 to Friday May 10. Music by Patrick Duffin, series produced by Multistory Media, part of ITV Studios
