Coronation Street fans predict Joel Deering’s downfall after ‘stupid’ move

Coronation Street fans think they have worked out what will be Joel Deering’s downfall in the end after they spotted his ‘stupid’ move. Viewers of the ITV soap discovered last week that the solicitor is behind the disappearance – and suspected murder – of Lauren Bolton.

The teenager was last seen on the cobbles on February 23 after being sacked from her job at Roy’s Rolls by Roy. The café owner later visited her with her wages and some extra cash to tide her over. But soon after, the teen was visited at home by a mystery person, who viewers never got to see, and she hasn’t been seen since.

Roy was imprisoned awaiting trial after being charged with Lauren’s murder after blood was found in her flat. However, weeks on and after a number of episodes shown the same day from different characters’ perspective, Roy was released from prison and the truth was finally revealed – but only to those watching at home.

The residents of Weatherfield are still none the wiser that Joel was Lauren’s ‘secret boyfriend’ who had showered her with expensive gifts but also left her shockingly bruised. They now think it was Nathan Curtis following the return of Bethany Platt’s groomer.

He was charged with Lauren’s murder after newcomer Kit Green planted evidence in his van, after catching Sarah Barlow thinking about doing the same. The duty solicitor ended up being Joel and he had good reason for looking shifty as when he returned to the street, he made a swift exit from Roy’s homecoming and was met by Hope Stape who handed him a necklace that she found in his car when cleaning it.

Corrie fans knew it was the necklace that belonged to Lauren and likely linked to a previous receipt for a jewellery shop found by Joel’s girlfriend Dee-Dee Bailey. Then, a flashback clip then revealed him to be Lauren’s secret ‘boyfriend’ and him brutally attacking her with a chair leg.

Joel then later appeared to make Bethany Platt his next target after she headed to speak to Ellie, who she previously scared off, as she believed had been attacked by a man that also attacked Lauren. After showing Ellie a picture of Nathan, the woman confirmed to Bethany that it was him who attacked her.

During Monday night’s (June 3) Corrie, Dee-Dee was horrified to discover that Joel would be representing Nathan and when the news later came out in the cafe, a gutted Bethany made it clear that if Nathan got away with it, Joel would be just a guilty as he is if he attacks any other young girls.

But he was surprised to learn the PC Craig Tinker would be paying the aforementioned Ellie a visit. When he did, her flatmate said she’d done a bunk and all her stuff was gone but she had noticed something wasn’t right about her in the days earlier. Soon after, viewers saw Joel emerge at the precinct where he was seen deleting Ellie’s number from his phone, hinting that she’d met the same fate as Lauren.

Corrie fans, however, couldn’t help but point out that Joel’s phone may later hold the clue to how he’d eventually be found out by the police. One fan said: “So Joel deletes Ellie’s number… does he not realise you never actually delete anything from a mobile…..not so smart Joel #Corrie.”

A second echoed: “Um, as a lawyer surely even Joel knows it’s not just as simple as deleting the calls/texts from his phone, they can still be traced via the actual phone network or whatever.” A third added: “Looks like Joel has killed again! But how stupid is he deleting Ellie’s number off his phone when he gets found out won’t the police check his phone and still see his previous contacts?”
