Expect triple digit heat index again — another heat advisory is issued for South Florida

In World
June 29, 2024

For the second consecutive day, the National Weather Service issued a heat advisory on Saturday for the Miami and Fort Lauderdale areas, Collier County and the mainland part of Monroe County.

The advisory will run until 5 p.m. Saturday because “hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses,” the weather service said.

The base temperature high is expected to be 91 degrees, but the heat index, which factors in humidity, is forecast to reach 109.

Ways to deal with excessive heat include:

Staying inside in air conditioning or with fans blowing.

Wear lightweight and loose clothing outside.

If you can, take care of outside work as afternoon slides into evening.

Drink plenty of water or cool drinks with electrolytes. If you’re working outside, take regular water breaks, whether you feel as if you need it or not.

Remember to check on friends, family or senior citizens who might be in homes with poor cooling.
