A heartbroken Leeds woman has paid tribute to her mum who died suddenly.

Debbie Graham suddenly lost her life on May 3 at the age of 50 after feeling unwell the day before. Her daughter, Amy Graham, told LeedsLive that Debbie, 50, from Seacroft, had a headache and a pain in her jaw but when she last saw her, she was “laughing and joking” and “back to her usual self.”

Amy. 26, said the family have already been through heartache, as she lost her father in 2020 and then her sister Laura, who passed away in 2022. At the time of Laura’s death, Debbie spoke with LeedsLive of her heartbreak at finding Laura’s body on Boxing Day. Laura had taken her own life after leaving her daughter Elsie with her mum.

Elsie was living with Debbie at the time of her death, but did not stay home that night.

Amy said: “It as so unexpected. We’re waiting for a post-mortem. She was a little unwell on the Thursday – we thought she had the flu as all her symptoms indicated that. She had a sleep during the morning and woke up in the afternoon and she was back to her normal self, saying she just had headache and a pain in her jaw.

“My niece stayed at my grandma’s that night to give my mum rest and to get enough sleep to be well that next day. She was laughing and joking “with us that night, back to her usual self.

“On the Friday morning I text her to see what time I was going to pick up my niece from my grandmas but she didn’t reply so I asked my brother whom lives with my mum to see if she was awake. He then called me to ask me to go home as he couldn’t wake her up and she was cold. She had passed during the night.”

Amy described her mum as “amazing” and said she was “the best mum I could ever ask for.”

She added: “She was always there for anyone. Making sure everyone else was happy and putting everyone else first. She was not only my mum but my best friend. I saw her every single day and she always planned for us all to do something every weekend.

“One of her favourite places to go was Blackpool. She loved looking after my niece and nephew, she loved being a nanna, always spoiling them.

“It’s like never ending torture, I lost my dad in 2020 a day after my mum and dad got married. Then my sister to suicide 2021 and now 2024 my mum. It doesn’t feel real I expect to see her. I go to text and call her but then it kicks in. My niece is a big distraction, she’s always on the go so it really helps taking my mind off things.”

The family is now raising money to help with funeral costs for Debbie’s funeral.

The fundraiser has, at the time of writing, raised £220, and Amy thanked those who have so far made donations, saying “it means more than the world.”

She said: “She deserves the best send off. She’s given me and my family so much during her life and we just want to give her something back but obviously because it was so unexpected we don’t have those sort of funds at the moment…It means so much to us as a family and we are forever grateful.”
