Everton midfielder and former Tottenham Hotspur star Dele Alli is set to join the Monday Night Football team as he continues his recovery from injury.

The 28-year-old midfielder, who has been out of action this season, will be making his punditry debut alongside Jamie Carragher and David Jones when the Toffees face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Alli will be part of the Sky Sports show which has become renowned for its in-depth analysis of the weekend’s fixtures and a retrospective look at the guest’s career highlights.

With Alli’s contract due to end after this season and having not played a single game this year due to injury, his future at Goodison Park remains uncertain. Everton manager Sean Dyche has previously indicated that he is unwilling to rush the midfielder’s return following groin surgery.

In a February press briefing, Dyche said: “We’ll see [when Dele will be back]. He’s got a long way to go and we have deliberately kept him back from it and I agreed that with him just to give him time and give him space, so that’s what we’re doing.”

Dyche added: “Hopefully he’ll be back, we don’t know. We’re giving him the privacy that he needs at this time.

“He’s in a good state, I spoke to him recently and had a good, long conversation with him, making sense of another injury is difficult but he’ll come through that I’m sure. He was [okay] when I spoke to him a couple of weeks ago. He was very informed and telling me what he thought.”
