Gemma Atkinson has shared her delight as she teased how her recent efforts in the gym had paid off after vowing to get back on track with her fitness following the birth of her second child. She also opened up about returning to work full-time as her maternity leave comes to an end.
Those who follow Gemma, 39, on social media know that she is very much into her health and fitness and has recently been documenting her latest challenge During her second pregnancy last year she was honest about her keenness to get back into her gym routine once safe to do so.
The Hits Radio host and her Strictly Come Dancing star fiance Gorka Marquez then welcomed their son, Thiago, back in July, just over four years after the birth of their daughter Mia. Several months on and Bury-born Gemma has revealed she’s now finished her 12-week programme at Ultimate Performance (UP Fitness) in Manchester.

She returned to the gym under the watchful eye of personal trainer Steve Chambers, who she’s nicknamed ‘Evil Steve’, and has now shared her emotions at getting her final results from her efforts throughout the three-month programme.
Speaking in a string of videos shared to her Instagram Story, the mum-of-two said: “I had my last session with Evil Steve on Friday. It was supposed to be two Fridays earlier but Thiago got his little ear infection so I didn’t want to leave him so I did it after my holiday…”
Gemma explained how she was a bit apprehensive about the accuracy of her results after two weeks away from the gym, however, she told how she still trained on holiday while also having the treats she wanted while soaking up the sun in Tenerife with Gorka, Mia and Thiago, known as Tio for short.
“I was blown away, I genuinely was. I was 11lb down, body fat from 15.3 to 12, my lean body mass, my muscle mass massively increased, my strength increased tenfold… So yeah, I was really proud.” She also typed alongside the video: “I was SO happy with my results! It actually made me quite emotional [face holding tears emoji]. Never ever thought after 2 babies and 2 big operations I’d get back to feeling and actually being SO strong again!”
Meanwhile, Gemma also discussed returning to Hits Radio where she co-hosts the drivetime show with Mike Toolan for the first time since heading off on her maternity leave last summer. “I’m back on the radio from Wednesday which means I’ve only got two more full days with Thiago. I’m never going to get maternity leave again because I’m having no more.”
It comes after Gorka also said he and Gemma were done expanding their brood. The dancer, 33, was heard chatting about his family during am episode of his co-stars’ travel series. Gorka joined Anton Du Beke and Giovanni Pernice for the third and final episode of their BBC One series Anton & Giovanni’s Adventures in Spain.
Following their trip to Italy last year, the new show sees the duo head to Spain on an epic adventure across Anton’s motherland with their trip ending in the very village where Anton’s mother was born and after leaving Madrid behind to head to the Basque region, asque local Gorka joined them for a whistlestop tour.
After getting a taste of the the bite-sized Basque pintxo, Anton, Giovanni and Gorka headed to find their accommodation for the night. It is then when Anton quizzed Gorka on family life.
“So you’ve started all over again then – the late nights and the bottle,” Anton said, referring to the Spanish dancer and his fiancee Gemma welcoming their second child, son Thiago, into the world back in July just over four years after the birth of their first child, daughter Mia.
“I know, I haven’t even started yet to be honest,” the 33-year-old admitted at the time of filming the show. “I haven’t been at home yet. Although, you had two in one go so you don’t know what it’s like one then two…” Gorka added to Anton, who welcomed twins with his wife Hannah in 2017.
“The thought of having one, packing everything away then having to do it again is just… I don’t know, I feel like it’d probably be harder,” Anton replied before asking Gorka: “Are you going to go again? Or are you done at two?” He replied: “I’m done at two. I’m booking for the snap…” Anton laughed as he repeated: “The snap!” Knowing he meant ‘the snip’, a term used to describe having a vasectomy, the Strictly judge joked: “That’s quite dramatic. Generally just a little snip would be enough.”
