A 56-year-old man has been arrested after a nine-year-old girl was allegedly snatched from outside Harrods department store while shopping with her family.

Police were called to the scene outside the department store at 2.44pm on Monday where the youngster had become separated from her family.

CCTV showed her in the company of a man, which was circulated to officers.

A suspect was stopped by police while still in the company of the child nearly three hours later at 5.40pm in Kensington’s Old Court Place – a 35 minute walk away.

A Met Police spokesperson said: “A 56-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of child kidnap. He was taken to a west London police station where he remains.

“The child and her family are being supported by specialist officers.

“At this time detectives believe this to be an isolated incident with no other persons involved.”

A Harrods spokesperson said: “We supported the Metropolitan police with an incident outside Harrods that has now thankfully been resolved.

‘We cannot comment any further on the details as it is a police matter but are thankful the Met Police’s swift actions led to this safe resolution.”
