‘I visited Manchester’s worst-rated hotel that some say isn’t worth £1 a night’

Securing a decent hotel deal can be quite the challenge, particularly in bustling city centres.

This is why, despite its less than stellar reviews, Sachas Hotel in central Manchester continues to draw in guests with its bargain prices. With a rating of two out of five on TripAdvisor, one guest went as far as to say they wouldn’t stay again even if it “was £1 a night”.

TikTok user @zacjonesliverpool, known for his hotel reviews, decided to investigate whether Sachas Hotel was truly as bad as some claim, or if it’s worth sacrificing a bit of luxury for an affordable weekend getaway.

In his video titled “staying in Manchester’s WORST reviewed hotel”, Zac mentioned that every review he’d come across advised people to “avoid it [the hotel] at all costs”. Upon entering, he remarked that it was “nice in here”, making note of the chandelier in the entrance hall.

The receptionist offered him an “upgrade” to a room with a window, and despite declining, he was upgraded regardless.

Upon entering the room, Zac described it as “a bit dark” but initially found there wasn’t “much to complain about”. He felt the reviews were not “a fair representation of the hotel”, stating the room appeared “good” and “far from terrible”.

While he did mention the carpet was “a bit manky”, he noted that the bed seemed “clean at first glance”.

In a different video, he scrutinised the bathroom and declared there wasn’t “much to complain about, or rave about”, suggesting that it was “very basic” with “ugly floors, but they get the job done”.

Shifting gears, Zac navigated the hotel’s hallways in another clip, stating that it resembled “every Britannia hotel ever made” yet appeared “quite clean”. He said some aspects seemed “eerie”, although he admitted to bypassing a restricted zone while exploring.

Things took a slightly unsettling turn when Zac examined the bedding under UV light to find that the pillowcases were “horrible” and “not very nice” due to noticeable marks. Commenting on the mattress, he judged it as “cheap” but reported seeing “nothing standing out” in the form of stains. He assured viewers that the “towels look fine”.

Zac concluded his review by declaring: “Final words about this place – over-hated.”

A mixed bag of reviews flooded in from the comments section, where one person said: “Had the pleasure of staying…reminds me of the hotel out of The Shining. In fact I would have preferred to stay there.” Conversely, another viewer penned: “Best hotel ever”.

Britannia Hotels has been approached for a comment.
