Majorca residents demand UK tourists be ‘arrested’ over clothing rule

Residents in Majorca have called on UK holidaymakers to be ‘arrested’ for violating a lesser-known clothing regulation.

The Majorca Daily Bulletin captured an image of a tourist shopping in Majorca in snug green trunks, which locals claim is a breach of the strict swimwear laws and are demanding his arrest. A local resident expressed their frustration, stating: “No modesty.”

Another questioned: “Just why? Would they consider walking around their own town centre like that?”

A business owner in the area told the Bulletin “that the naked truth about the state of affairs is that some tourists think that they can do what they like.” Another local commented: “Disrespectful, should be arrested and fined,” reports Birmingham Live.

The Foreign Office advises on its website: “In some parts of Spain it’s against the law to be in the street wearing only a bikini or swimming shorts. Being bare-chested is also illegal in some areas in Spain.

“You may be fined if you’re caught wearing swimwear on the seafront promenade or adjacent streets. For security reasons, some public authorities in Spain do not allow the burka or niqab to be worn in their buildings. If you visit town council buildings wearing a burka or niqab, you may be asked to remove it while inside.”

Spanish law forbids anything that could hinder safe driving, including wearing inappropriate clothing or footwear. Drivers caught violating this rule could face a 200 euro fine.

However, for those who enjoy ‘nature tourism’ or nudism, there are three stunning beaches in Mallorca where they can indulge. Es Trenc is perhaps the most well-known and frequented of them all.

Located in the south of the island, Es Trenc boasts a long stretch of white sand and crystal-clear waters where nudism is commonplace. Llucalcari beach, also known as Es Canyeret, is a beautiful hidden gem in Mallorca.

S’Arenal d’en Casat, situated in the protected natural environment of Son Real, is another beach where you can sunbathe and swim in the nude. Don’t miss the biggest and breaking stories by signing up to the Echo Daily newsletter here.
